First week of January is over. Three more to go. January is definitely Bertha’s favorite month — if you can log some decent mileage in January, your spring season is off to a good start. Just trying to press through and know there’s light — literally, more daylight — ahead.
Monday: Easy 6 to recover from Sunday’s race, 50 minutes, AHR 131 (so lowwww). Had the day off work so slept in and ran with a friend. Clunky. 30 minutes of Jasyoga in the evening.

Tuesday: 10 miles, 77 minutes, AHR 146. Easy peasy. Faster than I expected.
Wednesday: 10 miles, 76 minutes, AHR 150. Speed work day: 1 mile at 6:30, 2×800 at 6:00, 4×400 at 85, all on the treadmill. Warm up, cool down, recovery jogs. Ran before work (6:30 a.m.) and taught Pilates after (6 p.m.) so basically I was at the gym for 3 hours.
Thursday: 6 miles, 46 minutes, AHR 144. Easy recovery run before work. Wanted to do 8 but slept too late. Taught Pilates Strength after work.
Friday: 6 miles, 46 minutes, AHR 143. Easy on the treadmill. Again, wanted to do 8 … but it was after work on a Friday and I also wanted to go home.

Saturday: 14.22 miles, 1:47:44, AHR 145. SO COLD. Windchill was -1 to 0 the entire time, actual temp 8-10. All the clothes. Can’t believe I was running that fast. BRRR. 48 minutes of Jasyoga and foam rolling in the evening.
Sunday: 6 miles, 46 minutes, AHR 140. This was way faster than I expected and my HR was way low. I was listening to the Run to the Top podcast with Tina Muir interviewing Jared Ward, which was a great episode. I had my watch screen on HR only and I kept missing the mile splits since I was listening to my headphones. I don’t usually run with headphones outside but I save Sundays … it’s an easy run and I always have a pile of podcasts I want to listen to but no time. It’s a nice incentive and helps keep the run easy and entertaining. Did a little bit of Jasyoga before and after the run.
Totals: 58.2 miles, 3 hours of Pilates and yoga. (Since I opted for the lower-mileage options Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, I expected this to be a lower-mileage week. Then I looked at the total on Saturday and almost ran extra Sunday to hit 60! Whoops! No need to hit 60 just because, though, because I’ve got plenty more training ahead!)
Great job this week :). I love that you have the motivation to train hard, but also the self-discipline not to run more mileage just to hit certain numbers in a training log.
Sometimes I am better than others!
